Algal Bloom Seminar To Air On Channel 5

Access Channel 5 will air an algal bloom seminar which was recently held at the Hewes BOCES Center in Ashville. The seminar was hosted by the Chautauqua Lake Association, Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and Jamestown Audubon Society.

The program will air at 3 and 9 p.m. each day beginning Saturday with the last airing on Sept. 12.

Scott Kishbaugh presented the talk which included a PowerPoint presentation. Kishbaugh is the bureau chief for the Lakes Monitoring and Assessment Section of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Bureau of Water Assessment Management.

“Algal blooms are becoming a large concern for residents and visitors of Chautauqua County,” said Doug Conroe, president of the CLA. According to Conroe, extensive harmful algal bloom data has been collected on Chautauqua Lake for the last three years.

Access Channel 5 (QAM channel 21.4 without a converter) is available to cable viewers in the Mayville, Chautauqua, North Harmony, Sherman, Westfield and Portland areas.
