Carol A. Millward

Carol A. Millward of Sinclairville, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at home surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in the town of Charlotte on Dec. 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Lut-gen) Hilton.

Carol was a Cassadaga Valley graduate class of 1959. She also graduated from Jamestown Business College, and had been employed by the Chautauqua County Airport before retiring due to her physical di-sability.

At the age of 25, Carol was diagnosed with an AVM (Arterial Venous Malformation) of the spine. Following surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Carol could walk only with the help of a cane and in her later years required the help of her wheelchair.

For many years, Carol led Bible studies in her home strengthening others in their faith. Her love of God helped encourage not only her family, but many others who had the blessing of knowing her. Despite battling physical hardships, Carol was emotionally and spiritually strong and was an inspiration to many.

Carol is survived by her husband, Rod, who supported and cared for her until her passing. She is also survived by her two daughters: Vicki (Kevin) Martin of Sinclairville, and Jill (David) Lawson of Cassadaga; a sister, Virginia VanPoortvliet and a brother, Howard Hilton, both of Cassadaga; six grandchildren: Lindsey (Chas) Criss of Burlington, N.C., Kathryn (Steve) Martin of Sinclairville, Lauren (Scott) Fenton of Sinclairville, Jon (Libbi) Martin of Cassadaga, Karli Lawson of State College, Pa., and Annie Lawson of Cassadaga; eight great-grandchildren: Chas Duane Criss II, Kevin and Skylar Herington, Tucker, Marsal and Martin Fenton, and Robby and Jay Martin. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Jim and Barbara White and Steve and Colette Millward; in addition to several nieces and nephews including Tanya Ashbaugh, who resided with her for six years.

Many thanks to Pastor Ken Hodgins, who was instrumental early on in Carol’s Christian walk. Also, special gratitude to her caregivers: Di Johnson, Sarah Beichner, Debbie Johnson and Jessica Burroughs.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law: Glenn and Garnet Millward, and a stepson, Billy Kinne.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Park United Methodist Church, 49 Sinclair Dr., Sinclairville. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery, Ellery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice, Meals on Wheels or the Church on the Rock.
