Stella Jewell Gross
Stella Jewell Parker Gross died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Absolut Care of Westfield.
She was born Oct. 5, 1929, to the late Grant W. Parker and Jewell Lindal Parker.
Stella was educated in the Mayville Central School system, graduating in 1949. She married Edwin L. Gross Sr. and together they raised three sons: Thomas and Grant; and a daughter, Susan.
During her lifetime, Stella worked at the County Home in Dewittville, N.Y.; the White Inn in Fredonia, N.Y.; and W.T. Grants, Johnson Winery and Belknap Business Forms in Westfield, N.Y.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, ceramics, gardening, flower arranging, walking and spending time with her family. She also had been a member of the VFW in Hudson, Fla., and the Westfield Home Bureau.
Stella is survived by her sons, Thomas (Suzanne) Gross of Mayville, N.Y., Grant “Bill” (Pamela) Gross of Westfield, N.Y., and daughter, Susan (Robert) Johannes of North East, Pa. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Brian Gross, Timothy Pattison, Scott Gross, Grant Johannes, Benjamin Gross, Matthew Gross and Shawn Johannes; and great-grandchildren: Marina Arnold, Karma and Jaxson Johannes, Gavin Pattison and Emma Gross. She also leaves behind a brother, David (Kitty) Parker of Dewittville, N.Y.; and sister, Anna (Dave) Vanscyoc of Waynesburg, Pa.
Besides her parents and husband, Stella was preceded in death by her son, Edwin L. Gross Jr.; granddaughter, Alexandra Gross; grandsons: Matthew and Christopher Pattison; sister, Ellena Lucas; and brother, Herbert Parker.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Ripley, N.Y., with Pastor Matthew Golibersuch officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service and may call at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Interment will be at the Quincy Cemetery in Ripley, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stella’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo, N.Y., would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
