Mabel L. Smith

MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa.- Mabel L. Smith, 92, of Milford Township, Pa., formerly of Forestville, Upper Black Eddy and Independence Court, Quaker-town, Pa., passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. at Life Quest Nursing Center, Milford, Pa.

She was born in Fagundas, Pa., on Feb. 4, 1922, the daughter of the late Henry and Denise (Nason) Manross.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Tidioute High School, Tidioute, Pa., and Jamestown Business Col-lege. She and her late husband, Walton “Cub” Smith, whom she married Jan. 4, 1947, in Lakewood, and who died April 22, 1999, owned and operated the former Walton O. Smith Lumber Company in Forestville, before moving to Upper Black Eddy.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Frenchtown United Methodist Church, a friend of the Tinicum United Church of Christ, was a former member of Hamlet United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge of Cassadaga.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine (Carl) Shannon, of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by five brothers: Glenn, Harry, Howard, Richard and Lawrence Manross.

Friends are welcome to call at the Hamlet United Methodist Church, Route 83, Hamlet on Thursday from 9-11 a.m., from where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Carol Dill officiating. Interment will follow in Arkwright Summit Cemetery, town of Arkwright. A Rebekah Service will be conducted Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Hamlet United Methodist Church.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Hamlet United Methodist Church, Route 83, South Dayton, NY 14138.
