JCC Men, Women Post Impressive Soccer Wins
PLATTSBURGH – The Jamestown Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams turned in fine NJCAA Region 3 Division III road efforts on Sunday afternoon, making their long road trip from the North Country worthwhile.
Eric Priester picked up his first career win and the men blanked Clinton, 2-0, behind a strong defensive effort.
”We played great defense today,” JCC coach Pat Anderson said. ”They only got five shots off and we had 19. We outplayed them in just about every facet of the game. I would have liked to put a couple more in the net, but we did everything right today.
Brett Johnson tallied the Jayhawks’ first goal 36 minutes into the game on a header from a crossing pass by Erik Olson. With 18 minutes gone after intermission, Clinton had a hand ball in the box and Matt Born converted the ensuing penalty kick for a 2-0 lead, and that’s all Priester needed.
The victory improved JCC’s record to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 3 Division III.
The women, meanwhile, used a pair of goals from Sam Mann to even their record at 1-1.
Chantel Perez and Ellen Merchant added a goal apiece to back the goaltending of Tiffinni Keyes, who stopped four shots.
The Jayhawks led 4-0 at halftime and cruised the rest of the way.
”It’s a good rebound win from (Saturday),” JCC coach Dana Shelters said. ”We had a chance to sit down and talk about what we didn’t do well the day before. The gratifying part is we played our kind of game.”
