Boys And Girls Club Announces Fall Programming

The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown will open for it fall schedule of youth activities and programming at its 62 Allen St. facility on Tuesday for adults and on Wednesday, Sept. 3 for youth.

The Boys & Girls Club offers a variety of affordable recreational, educational and social programs emphasizing the national Boys & Girls Clubs of America goals of academic success, good character and citizenship and healthy lifestyles. The club serves boys and girls ages 5-17, (18 if still in high school) in a positive atmosphere with qualified adult supervision.

General open youth program hours beginning Thursday, Sept. 4 are Monday through Friday afternoons from 3-5 p.m. (for ages 5-18, if still in school). During this time program areas will be open by age levels and National Boys & Girls Clubs of America programming will be offered.

General youth hours continue Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, 6-9 p.m. for 7-18-year-olds and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for 5-18-year-olds. The club is also open for youth activities from noon-5 p.m. on most school holidays, half-days and conference days (following the Jamestown Public Schools calendar). Since Wednesday, Sept. 3 is a half-day of school the club will be open noon-5 p.m. on that day with youth swim 1:30-4:30 p.m. The club will not be open evening hours on Sept. 3.

The minimum age for open recreational attendance during evening time slots is 7 years old. Five- and 6-year-olds may attend open recreation hours on Saturdays, school holidays, vacations and during the summer months.

Open youth activities include swimming, gym, arts and crafts, computers, game rooms and a variety of special events. Most program areas are open during all youth hours, with age groups announced throughout the day for each area.

Youth membership fees are $15 per year for 5-17-year-olds (18 if still in high school). Proof of date of birth is required for purchase of memberships or day passes. Children and teens may make $1 per day payments on memberships until the full membership is paid.

Free Teen Night activities are held a minimum of two Friday evenings each month 9-11 p.m. for all area teens ages 13-17 (18 if still in high school). Teen Nights offer open recreation or special theme activities. Proof of date of birth is required for admission.Boys & Girls Club memberships are not required.

The Fall Teen Nights will be held on the following Friday evenings: Sept. 5, Sept. 19, Oct. 3, Oct. 17, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14. Community Family Night will be held each Thursday evening at the Boys & Girls Club from 6-9 p.m. beginning Thursday, Sept. 4. Club memberships are not required. Family Night activities will include game rooms, open gym and computers beginning at 6 p.m., and Family Swim from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Admission is free for Boys & Girls Club members and $1 per non-member youth or adult. Children under age 5 are admitted free. Children and teens are not permitted to participate in Family Night activities unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult relative.

The first Friday of every month will include our Dedicated Dads program in connection with Chautauqua Opportunities for male role models and the children they care about. Dedicated dads is 6:30-7:30 p.m. and adults and children work together on projects. The third Thursday of every month is our Family PLUS program from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For September there will be a grocery bingo.

In addition to open recreation, the Boys & Girls Club offers a variety of instructional classes and youth sports programs throughout the year. The fall youth program session includes youth swim lessons for ages 5 and up, infant and toddler swim lessons for ages 6 months to 4 years and indoor soccer for boys and girls in kindergarten through fourth grade. Infant/Toddler Swim Lessons begin Monday, Sept. 8 and run for eight-week sessions. Youth swim lessons for ages 5 and older begin the week of Sept. 9-13 and run Tuesdays-Saturdays for eight weeks. Youth Indoor Indoor Soccer will begin in mid-October, and Youth Flag Football will begin in early January. Youth basketball for boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade will begin in January and run through the end of March.

All programs, other than infant/toddler swim lessons, require youth memberships. Registration fees, in addition to youth memberships, vary by program. Player and volunteer registrations for all programs are accepted on an ongoing basis, with a deadline one week prior to each program’s start date. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as each program will have a maximum number of players to be accepted.

For adults open swim begins Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The gym/weight room are open Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept. 2-3) from 7 a.m. until noon. Regular hours (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.). for the gym/weight room begin on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Adult Water Aerobics and Arthritis Swim begins Wednesday, Sept. 10 and run in six-week sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays. Adult Learn-to-Swim begins Monday, Sept. 8 and run for eight-week sessions. Adult memberships are required to use the facilities or enroll in a class. Adult memberships are: $85/year ($70 for 55 and older) and $50/six months ($40 for 55 and older)
