Police Seize More Than $20,000 From Man Fleeing Traffic Stop
Jamestown Police officers seized more than $20,000 from a man who fled from a traffic stop Sunday morning.
At 10:30 a.m., a marked police unit stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation on South Main Street. After the vehicle was stopped, the operator – who was later identified as Charles Washington, 29, of Jamestown – fled the stop on foot, carrying a backpack.
Officers pursued Washington and saw him run into a Prospect Street residence. Officers found Washington hiding inside the residence and located the backpack. Police found a large sum of cash in the backpack. With a search warrant, officers found more cash, several scales and other drug paraphernalia. Officers found more than $20,000 in cash, police said.
Washington was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and unlawful possession of marijuana. The investigation is continuing, and more arrests are possible.
