James B. Schwab
James B. Schwab, 93, of Heritage Retirement Campus, Gerry, formerly of Falconer, passed away Thursday (Aug. 21, 2014), in WCA Hospital.
He was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Frostburg, Pa., the son of the late James Glade and Maude Rousch Schwab.
James was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, and a veteran of World War II serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942-45, in the European Theater.
James was owner and president of the James B. Schwab Company in Falconer, from 1952-86. He was a member of the Falconer Rotary International Club, Gideon’s International, Gerry Free Methodist Church, Union Rescue Mission, having served on the board of directors and had also served on the Gerry Homes board of direc-tors.
He enjoyed attending church and was a devoted Christian having a strong faith in God. James will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He also enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine T. Miller Schwab, whom he married Oct. 21, 1943; three sons: James G. (Judy) Schwab of Falconer, Dennis N. (Beverly) Schwab of Fairview, Pa., and Kevin B. (Kathleen) Schwab of Jackson, Tenn.; a daughter, Deborah K. (George) Schaus of Kennedy; a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Schwab of Downingtown, Pa.; 13 grandchildren: James Bryan Schwab, Melissa A. Schwab, Martin W. Schwab, Garret M. Schwab, Brandon Schwab, Troy M. Schwab, Tracy Hayes, Jessica Annegan, Nathan G. Schaus, Jacob J. Schaus, Derek Schwab, Corey Schwab and Taylor Schwab; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Dinger of Punxsutawney, Pa.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary W. Schwab on Sept. 7, 1997; four brothers: William Blaine Schwab, Herman Schwab, Mervin Schwab and Robert Earl Schwab.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Gerry Free Methodist Church, Route 60 Gerry, N.Y. The Rev. David McCarthy, pastor of the church and the Rev. Sam Shreffler, chaplain of Heritage Village, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
Friends will be received by the family from 1-4 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service Monday in the church.
