Edith Myrtle Morrison


Edith Myrtle Morrison, 93, formerly of South Dayton and Forestville, currently of the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk, passed away Sunday (Aug. 17, 2014), in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.

She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in New Albion, N.Y., the daughter of the late Floyd Carl and Dorthea Klein.

Edith attended Randolph Central School, and at the time of her retirement had worked as a site manager for the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging.

She was a member of the South Dayton Free Methodist Church and the council for the Department of the Aging. She was an avid reader, flower gardener, enjoyed watching television, spending time with the patrons at the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by two daughters: Nancy L. Fancher and husband, Gerald of Forestville, and Judy Houben of Youngsville, Pa.; a sister, Lorena Perkins of Salamanca; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Leslie Morrison, whom she married April 26, 1946, and who preceded her on Nov. 22, 1969; four sisters: Cecelia Brown, Viola Osterman, Lillian Gross and Nora Conway; and two half-siblings, Harold and Genevieve.

The family and friends will be received from noon-2 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 21, 2014), in the Van-Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Pastor Matthew Wittenbrook will officiate. Burial will be in the Rutledge Cemetery, Conewango Valley, N.Y. A luncheon will follow at the South Dayton Free Methodist Church.
