Ditcher, Lockwood Lose In Bergreen Quarterfinals
OLEAN – The first round of the annual Bergreen Junior Match Play Championship kicked off on Thursday at Bartlett Country Club with a field of 16 of the area’s best junior golfers.
Caleb Edwards, who plays at Bartlett and is the top seed, posted an 8 & 6 win over Brandon Whalen. He then posted a 3 & 2 victory over T.J. Schlimm in the quarterfinals.
Edwards will be taking on Josh Roselli today in the semifinals and the winner will meet the winner of the match between No. 15 seed Nick Simon and 13th-seeded Cameron Eddy from Holiday Valley to determine the winner.
Nolan Ditcher, who plays for Cardinal Hills Country Club and will be a junior at Randolph in September, was the second seed and he posted a first-round 9 & 8 victory over Simon, but fell the quaterfinals to Wil Simons from Bartlett, 2 & 1.
Wil Lockwood, who represented Moon Brook Country Club, was the fifth seed and claimed a first-round 2-up win over 12th-seeded Paul Etchepare, but lost to Roselle in the quarterfinals, 2 & 1.
Third-seeded Dylan Glatz, who also plays for Moon Brook, won his match in the first round, topping 14th seed Mitchell Struble, but Eddy defeated Glatz in the quarterfinal match, 1 up over 19 holes.
