I Scream, You Scream …
Downtown Jamestown is now serving 10 flavors of locally made ice cream
On Wednesday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at The Sprinkle Cone, located at 207 Pine St. Kate Harris, The Sprinkle Cone owner, said she is serving 10 flavors, which will change to keep fresh as the summer season continues. Prior to holding the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Harris said she opened the business on Friday joking that she had to, “get prepared” by working out her scooping arm before inviting local officials.
The walk-in ice cream shop will be serving Addie’s Ice Cream, which is made in Findley Lake. Harris said Addie’s only uses local dairies, which she said it is important to use products from local businesses.
In starting the new business, Harris teamed with building and Jamestown Skate Products owner Pete Sheira. Sheira renovated the space for the seasonal ice cream parlor with a 50/50 grant from the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation. Sheira purchased the once-vacant building along Pine Street more than four years ago. He said it has been, “a wild ride,” in renovating the building.
“I always knew this building was the place,” he said.
Sheira said thanks to local community members, there is a positive feeling flowing through the downtown business community.
“It is really cool what we have going on here,” he said.
Dr. Lillian Ney, Jamestown Renaissance Corporation board of directors co-chair, said the opening of an ice cream shop in Jamestown is another example of the renaissance in the businesses climate in the downtown corridor.
“In order to invest in the downtown, you have to have confidence in the downtown,” she said.
Sam Teresi, Jamestown mayor, said the opening of The Sprinkle Cone adds a new type of food and treat business to the variety of options in Jamestown.
“This fills a niche in the downtown,” he said.
Greg Lindquist, Jamestown Renaissance Corporation executive director, added many Jamestown residents are excited about the renovation of the Pine Street building and the new business.
“I don’t think anyone will be disappointed with what Pete and (Kate) have put together,” he said.
