Elsie J. Hogan
STOW – Elsie J. Hogan, beloved wife of Donald J. Hogan (deceased); loving mother of Terry Hogan and his wife, Mary of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Debbie Jaquith and her husband, Bruce of Columbus, Pa., and Alicia Pender and her husband, David of Fairport, N.Y.; wonderful grandma to Stephanie Donoghue (Josh), Ali Hively (Brady), Brian Pender (Erin), Erin Wolf (Josh), Kevin Hogan (Lindsey), Sean Pender, Craig Jaquith and Corey Pender; and great grand-mother, ”GiGi” to Kendall, Anna, Hunter, Kate and Eleanor, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and those that knew her.
Elsie was a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County, and spent a significant portion of her life promoting travel and tourism in the county while working with Don and others at Chautauqua County Visitor Bureau. She was a former member of the Jamestown Jaycees, where she made in-credible friendships that lasted throughout her life.
Always an active woman, Elsie worked throughout many years of her life. Besides CCVA, she and Don opened Hogan’s Hut in Stow and operated it for many years. Prior to that, she worked at CJ Developers in Jamestown and Ajax Manufacturing in Westfield. She was also blessed to have a fantastic group of friends who stayed active in her life and supported her when she needed something done. In recent years, the monthly card games with the 500 Group were always a highlight.
Elsie was truly a family person who loved having her children and grandchildren around as much as possible. Her house was always full of love with flowers blooming by the back porch, a fresh pie often on the counter and some of the best cookies ever made waiting in the kitchen for the next visitor.
Elsie was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Buffalo Bills.
Elsie was born in Westfield on May 27, 1931, to the late Samuel and Edith Churchill Johnston.
She was a 1947 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School. She is also survived by cousins; her sisters-in-law: Mary Ann and Margie; and many nieces and nephews.
Our family would especially like to thank the wonderful women who provided friendship and care to mom over the last months.
A celebration of life, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point. The Rev. Todd Remick will officiate.
