Grave Matters Registration Deadline Extended To Tuesday

There is still time to register for Grave Matters, the cemetery preservation workshop presented by the Western New York Association of Historical Agencies.

The workshop is being held on Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Holland Land Office Museum, Batavia, and the Historic Batavia Cemetery.

The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and features presentations about cemetery issues by Joan Schumaker of the Nunda Historical Society; documenting your cemetery by Judy Stiles of the Genesee County History Department; and “Looking for the Second Great Awakening in the Cemetery Art of WNY” by Derek Maxfield, history professor at Genesee Community College.

The afternoon portion of the workshop is a hands-on demonstration of proper cleaning and repair techniques taught by representatives from the Friends of Mt. Hope Cemetery, and WNYAHA.

Registration is $50 for non-members of WNYAHA, and $40 or $45 dollars for members, depending on membership level. Lunch is included in registration.

The deadline has been extended to Tuesday.

WNYAHA serves and provides resources to individuals and organizations engaged in the preservation and interpretation of WNY’s historical, ethnic, and cultural heritages.
