Constance K. Grey, 91, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, after a brief illness. Connie was the daughter of William D. and Elizabeth Barnes Kohler of Buffalo, N.Y.
Connie sold real estate for more than 40 years, doing business as Connie Grey Realty and in earlier years, Frewsburg Realty. She loved selling real estate and the many dear friends she made over the years.
Connie was a woman of many talents. She advertised on the Saturday Morning Breakfast Party on WJTN where she shared “A Thought for the Day” every week. She later authored a book of inspiration and hope by the same title. When Connie was 79 years young she completed a bachelor’s degree through Empire State College, having had her education interrupted by marriage and family.
Connie was a member of Zonta International, the Jamestown Board of Realtors, Lakewood Women’s Club and the Pen Women of Fort Lauderdale.
Connie was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Roger P. Grey, in 2007; her sister, Emma Mooney, in 1998; and her son, Roger H. Grey, in 2013.
She is survived by her brother, William C. Kohler of California; her daughter, Cheryl Grey of Lakewood; and her son, Richard D. (Lori) Grey of Ashville. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Amanda (Alan) Chase, Carl (Michelle) Grey, Kate (Tim) Tidwell, Sarah Howard (Kevin Clayton), Ashley and Allison Grey, and Dena (Chris) Grey-Seminatore; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Lind Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakewood Library or the Lakewood Legion Scholarship Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
