‘New Age Movement’
LAKEWOOD- The wellness of the body begins with the mind and spirit. That’s according to the owners of the new business, Sacred Spiral, in Lakewood.
In a world full of synthetic medicines and foods, some people wish to return to the natural roots which existed for thousands of years. This movement, called the “New Age Movement,” has been gathering momentum as people steadily become more obsessed with their health – both physically and spiritually. However, some may not know where to begin their journey.
“We guide them,” said Kathleen Gilbert, one of the owners of Sacred Spiral. “We aren’t doctors. We don’t diagnose. None of that; we don’t claim to cure. All we do is set you on the path of self-responsibility. So you know what you have to do, and we help you on your way, so you can get better yourself.”
Gilbert said she and the other two owners of the Sacred Spiral, Amy Maree and Shannon Godfrey, want to help improve the community’s health mentally, physically and spiritually.
Sacred Spiral first began to come into creation when Godfrey wanted to create a wellness center. It came together as Godfrey talked to Maree and Gilbert, and eventually they opened the shop, which focuses on the “eternal internal journey.”
Each of the three women bring something unique to the table, and between the three of them, they cover a wide area of services. These include: crystal consultations, hypnotherapy, card reading, chakra balancing, acupuncture, aroma therapy, certified life coaching and wholestic nutrition. They also bring in reiki practitioners, geomancy readers, clairvoyants and mediums.
“I just did a workshop last night on meditation basics,” said Maree. “You know you have a lot of people that don’t really know that first step to take. … Usually when people think of meditation, they think of sitting in silence and clearing your mind, and there is a whole bunch more to meditation than that.”
Godfrey plans to create a newsletter with articles to explain the different New Age practices and what they entail.
Sacred Spiral also helps out local artists and vendors by selling their wares out of the building. The store currently showcases six artists, and allows them to have complete control of whatever they create as long as they keep with the inspirational message the store hopes to promote.
Sacred Spiral’s grand opening will take place the first week of August. Dennis Morley – an internationally known and certified psychic, medium, clairvoyant and astrologer from Lily Dale – and the Jamestown Thunder Circle will be present.
The Sacred Spiral can be found at 174 W. Fairmount Ave. in Lakewood.
