Winners Listed From Karslake Tourney
CHAUTAUQUA – A soggy Lake Course at Chautauqua Golf Club played host on Sunday to the 33rd annual Frank Karslake Golf Tournament and a kickoff of events connected to the 100-year celebration of the club.
Despite a rain shower and gusty winds several respectable scores were posted on the greens that featured streams and puddles as obstacles.
The Men’s Gross Division winners were Bill Johnson and Jack McCauley with a best-ball 69 and the Net Division winners were Simon Knepshield and Chuck Pierce with a 59. Barbara Jones and Shirley Adams were winners in the Women’s Gross Division with an 84 the Women’s Low Net Division winners were Ann Knepshied and Edie Bensink, and Linda King and Leslie Peet who tied with 64s.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Jack Connolly, president the CGC Board of Governors, directed the raising of the commemorative flag behind the 18th green and proceeded to outline events scheduled in connection with the clubs 100th year celebration. Events include an auction of vintage tee signs, a display of vintage golf equipment and photos, a putting contest using an antique putter and an array of period food celebrating the heritage of the farm land the course was built on. For those looking for a unique garden decoration, the old ball washers are available for $35.
The club is extending an invitation to all past and present members to come and enjoy the festivities which will be held on Aug. 3, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $15.00 for advance reservations and $20 at the door. The auction will end at the celebration on Aug. 3, but bids may made at any time in the pro shop.
