Elderly Man Injured After Being Dragged By Vehicle

MAYVILLE – An elderly man was taken to UPMC Hamot Thursday after being dragged by his own vehicle.

At 7:20 p.m., Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Mayville and Chautauqua EMS, responded to a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Watermark Restaurant in the village of Mayville.

Upon arriving at the scene and further investigation, it was found that Norman R. Weizenbaum, 82, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was leaving the Watermark parking lot and traveling up a private driveway to leave the restaurant. Weizenbaum began to drive up the driveway when he stopped his vehicle to check on something. As Weizenbaum exited his vehicle, he failed to put his vehicle in park and the vehicle started to roll backwards down the driveway. Weizenbaum was then dragged with the vehicle down the driveway and through some brush until his vehicle struck another vehicle that was parked in the Watermark parking lot.

Weizenbaum sustained injuries from the accident and was flown by Starflight to UPMC Hamot.
