Dawn Of A New Season
BEMUS POINT – The stage is set and the judges are ready for kickoff of the 2014 Chautauqua Lake Voices vocal competition.
The six-week series will begin Monday at 6:30 p.m. on Bemus Point’s floating stage, when 12 contestants will present their singing talents in front of a live audience in their first bid for the SE93 Chautauqua Lake Voices champion.
Formed in 2004 as a collaborative effort between Bemus Pay Pops and Media One Group, Chautauqua Lake Voices has become a staple in the region for more than a decade – featuring the talents of more than 100 area performers over that time. This year’s judge panel – Tim Edborg, Patricia Newman, Michelle Paterniti and Andrew Minton – will eliminate performers each week until they have pared the contestant pool down to three, which will participate in the Aug. 18 finale performance.
The winner will claim thousands of dollars in prizes, and have the opportunity to perform at the end-of-summer Bemus Bay Pops Labor Day finale.
After hosting open auditions at the Jamestown Gateway Train Station on June 14, the field has already been narrowed to a hopeful dozen contestants. They include: Kristina Kate Lynn Bullock, Dylan Carlson, Joshua Lucas, Victoria McIlvain, Bryan Moore, Margie Nelsen, Andrew Panebianco, Ashley Paulus, Ashley Reefer, Kristina Ruth, Rose Segel and Karina Simmons.
The on-stage backing music for the contestants will be provided by John Cross and the Babalu Band, which also includes Jim Foti on drums and Jim Karapontso on guitar.
The competition will be hosted by Andrew Hill, of Media One Group.
