E-Z Pass Alerts County Of Email Scam

MAYVILLE?- Chautauqua County Clerk Larry Barmore is alerting motorists to a phishing scam he was apprised of that appears to convince unsuspecting E-Z Pass users that they owe unpaid tolls.

“The New York State Thruway Authority just alerted us to an email scam that advises the recipient they have unpaid tolls and directs them to download the invoice. E-Z Pass does not send out email invoices for payment. The E-Z Pass service center will send an invoice through the U.S. Postal Service for payment to those who owe money for using a toll road,” Barmore said.

Barmore advises anyone who gets this email to not open or respond and delete it.

Anyone with questions about the validity of any message received from E-Z Pass, is asked to contact the E-ZPass New York Customer Service Center at 800-333-8655.

E-Z Pass tags are available at all three Chautauqua County Department of Motor Vehicles offices for $25. The full $25 is loaded onto the E-Z Pass for use upon registering it with the Thruway Authority.
