ELLICOTT – A 30-year-old man whose vehicle veered off Route 60 and into a ditch Tuesday evening was reportedly using heroin while driving.
According to the New York State Police, Zachary Ellis was traveling northbound on Route 60 in the town of Ellicott just north of Jamestown when he crashed into a ditch near the area of Tompkins Road.
Ellis, who was found unconscious, was given naloxone – an “opioid antagonist” that counters the effects of an overdose – by state police who responded to the scene shortly before 7 p.m.
The naloxone was able to revive Ellis, police said.
Ellicott Police and Fluvanna emergency officials also responded to the scene, the latter of which transported Ellis to WCA Hospital.
