Two Face Fourth Of July Fireworks Charges
BEMUS POINT – Fireworks complaints filled police scanners throughout the evening on the Fourth of July and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office ended up charging at least two of the culprits.
Deputies on patrol in Bemus Point at 9:39 p.m. Friday observed fireworks being set off on South Everett Avenue. After a short investigation, Bruce J. Scroxton, 51, was charged with unlawfully dealing with fireworks.
Just over two hours later, the sheriff’s deputies remained on patrol in Bemus Point and at 11:48 p.m. observed fireworks being set off on South Oriental Avenue. After an investigation there, officers charged Peter D. Trathen, 19, with unlawfully dealing with fireworks.
Both subjects will appear in Town of Ellery Court at a later date.
