Margaret “Peg” Pickard Bogenschutz

Margaret “Peg” Pickard Bogenschutz, 97, of Bemus Point, died Thursday (July 3, 2014) in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She lived in Bemus Point her entire life.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1916, in Bemus Point, the daughter of the late Clarence H. and Minnie Cheney Pickard.

She was raised and educated in Bemus Point and graduated from Bemus Point Central High School in 1933. Following in her father’s footsteps, she attended Jamestown Business College. She then graduated with a medical/dental and a secretarial course degree.

Margaret was employed as a dental assistant for several local dental offices in Jamestown for many years. She later worked at J.C. Penney downtown in Jamestown. She and her husband had a road market for many years.

She was an active member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Bemus Point. She took on various roles as a church member, working on the church newsletter, serving as an usher, she was part of the Refreshment Committee, and was a member of the Braille Group there for 20 years.

Margaret was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Ellery Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed sewing, playing cards and working in her flower garden. She was able to drive her car and mow her own lawn until she was 95 years old. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling to Reno, Nev., to visit her daughter.

Margaret is survived by two daughters: Helen Waite and her husband, Bill of Reno, Nev., and Joyce Workens of Jamestown, N.Y.; two grandsons: Scott Rogers and Craig Rogers both of Charlotte, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren: Tyler Rogers, Ellison Day Rogers and Riley Erin Rogers, all of Charlotte, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bogenschutz, whom she married in November 1938. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark Pickard.

Friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home Inc., 316 E. Fifth St., Jamestown, N.Y. on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 3748 Route 430, Bemus Point, N.Y. on Monday at 1 p.m. Pastor Dan Rumfelt will officiate.

Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
