Independence Day Events Planned

Area residents have a myriad of ways to celebrate Independence Day.

The Jamestown Jammers will play the Williamsport Crosscutters at 7:05 p.m today at Diethrick Park. A fireworks display is planned for after the game.

The Silver Creek Independence Day Celebration will also take place today from 6-10 p.m. The celebration will include live music, food vendors and a fireworks display at dusk.

On Friday, Mayville’s 4th of July celebration will begin with a parade at 10 a.m., starting on North Erie Street and continuing to Lakeside Park. Various activities, food vendors and live music will take place throughout the day at Lakeside Park. A fireworks display is planned for 10 p.m.

Midway State Park is offering Ride-A-Rama wristbands at special pricing on Friday: noon-10 p.m. for $19 or $13 for 5-10 p.m. The Splash-A-Rama wristband will cost $24 for access noon-10 p.m. or $17 for 5-10 p.m. A fireworks display is planned at the park at 10 p.m. Admission to the park is free for the celebration.

In Lakewood, area residents can register for the Lakewood Family YMCA’s 2014 Firecracker Run on Friday. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. A kids race also be held at 9:30 a.m. From 2-10 p.m., Chautauqua Avenue will feature street sales, with vendors offering food, gifts and crafts, as well as displays demonstrations and more. From 7-10 p.m., Hartley Park will feature music from Smokehouse. The annual fireworks display is scheduled for 10 p.m.

Findley Lake will have a celebration Friday beginning with the firemen’s chicken barbecue before noon. At noon, there will be a duck race at the waterwheel. There will be a boat parade at 2 p.m. and live music at 7 p.m. at the gazebo. Flares will ring the lake at 9:30 and the fireworks display is set for 10 p.m.

In Dunkirk, there is a celebration from noon-10 p.m. on Friday, featuring live music, food vendors and a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Free parking will be available on streets and nearby parking lots.

The Dina Preston Band will be performing on the floating stage on Friday at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks. For tickets, visit www.bemusbaypops.com.

The Summer Wind is offering a Mardi Gras Party on the ship from 8-11 p.m. on Friday, which will include a viewing of fireworks. For reservations, call 763-7447.
