Cattaraugus County Students Earn ‘I Love New York Agriculture’ Awards
Twenty-four Cattaraugus County students have won awards at the state level in the “I Love New York Agriculture” art and writing contest sponsored by New York Ag in the Classroom and the Farm Bureau Foundation for pre-K through sixth-grade students. Winning entries will be displayed at the New York State Fair this summer.
Placing first at the state level were Paxton Mest, kindergarten; Ben Gann, grade 3; Kathryn Marshall, grade 5; and Sadie Hood, grade 6, all from Franklinville Central School; and Madison Summer, grade 4, from New Life Christian School.
Second place in the state judging went to Kiera Hess, pre-kindergarten; Allie Corcoran, kindergarten; and Joel Griffith, grade 4, all from Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School; McKenzie Schuyler, grade 3; and Dani Haskell, grade 6, both from Franklinville.
Third-place winners at the state level were Kaitlyn Crawford, grade 3; and Emma Pocobello, grade 5, both from Cattaraugus-Little Valley; and Kianna Kellner, grade 2; and Abby McCoy, grade 6, from Franklinville.
Receiving honorable mention at the state level were Bretton Blecha, grade 1; Magnolia Wilson, grade 4; and Zachary Burrell, grade 6, all from Franklinville; Maggie Grace Swartout, grade 4, from New Life Christian School; and Emma Barnes, pre-K; Michael Brewer, grade 2; Kyler Colton, grade 2; Savannah Braden, grade 3; Audrey Gassman, grade 4; and Cheyenne Tolsma, grade 5, all from Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Six hundred thirty-three students from seven Cattaraugus County schools participated at the county level sponsored by the Cattaraugus County Farm Bureau Pro Education Committee.
