JFD Announces Retirements, New Hires

The Jamestown Fire Department recently announced the retirement of three of its longtime members.

Firefighter Peter J. Volpe joined the department in 1982 and retired in January 2014. He graduated in 1982 from the City of Buffalo Bureau of Fire Training.

Firefighter George G. Schwob III is a third-generation city firefighter, following his grandfather, George G. Schwob and his father, George G. Schwob Jr. He was hired in 1984 and retired in March 2014.

Firefighter Vincent S. Capizzi joined the department in 1986 and retired in May 2014.

All three are lifelong Jamestown residents and graduates of Jamestown public schools. They represent a combined 90 years of experience to the Jamestown Fire Department.

The department has hired three probationary firefighters that were to graduate from the New York State Fire Academy in May. They are John R. Fredrickson, Jeffrey P. Hatch and Frank J. Volpe.
