Irene L. Feather
Irene L. Feather, 87, formerly of Methodist Gardens, Falconer, and Jamestown, passed away Monday (June 24, 2014), in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor Buchanan.
Irene was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School. In earlier years, she was employed by the Chautauqua County Clerk’s Office, and prior to retirement in 1987 was employed by the Chautauqua Blind Association. During retirement Irene was employed by Kelly Services.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in her youth and First Covenant Church as an adult. She was also a member of the Vikings Women’s Auxiliary and was a volunteer for RSVP of Lutheran Social Services.
Irene loved the Lord, her family and especially enjoyed walking. She also enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, spending winters with her husband in Florida, roller skating, skiing, camping, boating and arts and crafts.
Surviving are two daughters: Susan Platt of Jamestown, and Anne (Rodney) Ruttenbur of Gerry; a son, Bruce (Linda) Feather of Bear Lake, Pa.; four grandchildren: Josh Platt, Christina Feather, Ted Ruttenbur, and Sam Ruttenbur; a sister-in-law, Dolly Lyon of Hilton Head, S.C.; nieces: Jane Forbes of New Martinsville, W.Va., and Nancy (Doug) Leidblad of California; a nephew, Melvin Feather of Frewsburg; a niece-in-law, Verna Feather of Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gordon ”Gordy” Feather, whom she married Nov. 22, 1947, and who died April 11, 1995; two brothers: James Lyon and Daniel Lyon; a foster brother, Arthur Buchanan; a foster sister, Isabel Buchanan; and two nephews: William “Billy” Feather and Daniel Feather.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, NY 14701. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of the Lutheran Home, will officiate. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will not be observed.
The family suggest memorials may be donated to the Lutheran Social Services Foundation or Hultquist Place, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
