Difficult Dig

Road construction crews struck a gas line at the intersection of West Fifth and Clinton streets Wednesday afternoon, filling the surrounding area with the acrid stench of natural gas.

Jamestown police and fire officials responded to the scene at approximately 1 p.m., and worked to contain the leak.

According to Harry Snellings, Jamestown chief of police, the leak did not pose a significant threat to the community and did not warrant an evacuation.

The intersection will reportedly be closed for the next two to three days.
