Area High School Public Speakers Compete At JCC
Eleven area high school students competed in a College Connections student speech contest at Jamestown Community College’s Jamestown Campus in May.
Finalists, chosen from among students at schools offering JCC’s public speaking course, included Dominic Conroy and Jeffrey Spencer, Allegany-Limestone Central School; Angela Atkins and Caitlin Hallowell, Cattaraugus-Little Valley High School; ShyAnne Wood and Rebecca Young, Falconer Central School; Mallory Clark and Libby Hartley, Frewsburg Central School; Kimberly Crasti and Steven Brombacher, Jamestown High School; and Lucy Pannes, Southwestern Central School.
Pannes placed first and Crasti received second place.
Each contestant delivered a five-minute prepared speech and a 45-second extemporaneous speech and were judged on speech delivery and content.
Judges for the event were Simone Mullinax, coordinator of JCC’s communication program; Scott Kindberg, assistant sports editor of The Post-Journal; Brynne Deppas, Media One broadcaster; and Jacqueline Chiarot, regional representative for Congressman Tom Reed.
