Lakewood YMCA Announces 2014 Summer Day Camp Schedule

For over 20 years the Lakewood YMCA has offered a summer full of nature, water fun, games, great trips, arts and crafts, and new friendships. This summer the YMCA will be continuing the spirit and tradition of YMCA Day Camps by offering eight fun-filled weeks of camp. The Lakewood YMCA will be day camp programs this summer for children of all ages. Summer camp provides an experience for each child that will last a lifetime. Each week will incorporate a variety of activities and experiences that will keep the children exploring, learning, growing and having a great time all summer long. YMCA Summer Camp staff includes experienced, responsible and well-trained individuals who enjoy working with children. The Lakewood YMCA Summer Camp focuses on adventure and fun in a safe, caring environment.

Intro to Camp is designed for children 3-5 years of age and runs during the weeks of July 7-23. This program is a great introduction to day camp for children ages 3-5 years old. The program runs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9-11:30 a.m. The goal is for children to have fun while learning socialization and group skills necessary for school. The morning will consist of outside water fun, recreational games, crafts, singing, and more. A morning snack will be provided. Each week activities are based on a different theme. This year week one is Mickey & Friends, week two is Under the Sea and week three is Frozen. The cost is $45 for members and $60 for potential members.

Camp Wee-Okee is for children ages 4-8 years of age. Camp runs for eight weeks beginning June 30 and ending Aug. 22. Camp runs Monday through Friday from the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. With early drop-off beginning at 7:30 a.m. and late pickup at 5:30 p.m. for working parents. Wee-Okee camp travels on Monday to the Warren pool, Youngsville pool or Allegany State Park. On Tuesday Camp Wee-Okee stays at the Lakewood YMCA in the morning for some fun weekly themed activities as well as play outside on the water slides. Also on Tuesdays camp will travel to Allegany State Park and the Lakewood Library for story time. Wednesday is big trip day. The big trips this year include Waldameer, Midway State Park, Erie Zoo, Buffalo Museum of Science, Sky Zone, Chuck-E-Cheese and Splash Lagoon. Thursday includes a visit to Camp Onyahsa. There campers will take part in swimming, hiking, boating, ropes course and other awesome outdoor activities. On Fridays it is fun in the sun at Lakewood Beach.

Adventure Camp is for children ages 8-13 years of age and runs from June 30 through Aug. 22. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with early drop-off beginning at 7:30 a.m. and late pickup at 5:30 p.m. for working parents. This camp is designed for children looking for an adventurous summer. Adventure Camp travels five days a week. Monday is pool day traveling to Warren and Youngsville Pool or Allegany State Park. Adventure camp goes on Tuesday trips to places such as the Gorge, Griffs Sculpture Park, Horseback riding, Mayville Beach, Panama Rocks and Long Point State Park. Wednesday’s are big trip days that include trips to Sky Zone, Waldameer, Fantasy Island, Splash Lagoon, an Erie SeaWolves game, Darien Lake, Just Fun Center and Buffalo Lazertron. The cost for Camp Wee-Okee and Adventure Camp is $130 for members and $170 for potential members.
