Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents Of Phone Scams
A number of phone scams have attempted to swindle money from local residents, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
The latest scam involved an unknown person informing a victim that they had won $1 million, and in order to receive it, they had to send the caller large amounts of money.
The Sheriff’s Office said these callers sound very convincing because they have been making these calls for years from overseas.
Police encourage residents who receive such calls to inform the caller not to call back and hang up. Do not carry on a conversation with these people and never give out your personal information.
If the person keeps calling, make sure you contact your local police and report it.
