Manuel T. Hodnett
Manuel “Joe” Hodnett, 77, formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., transitioned from this life, Thursday, May 29, 2014, in his home in Harrisburg, Pa.
He was born May 19, 1937, in Lynchburg, Va., to the late William and Daisy (Moore) Hodnett.
Manuel retired from MRC Bearings after 40 years of dedicated service.
He loved politics and served as city councilman of Ward III in 1996. He was a former trustee and member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Manuel also participated in the historic March on Washington in 1963 and was an active member in the NAACP, the fight for civil rights and community betterment from his early college days at Alfred University.
Surviving are his daughter, Eve Lickers (Jonathan) of Harrisburg, Pa.; a sister, Argenia Rachel of Los Angeles, Calif.; two granddaughters: Anissa and Katheryn O’Hara; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Henry, Ted, William and Charles; and sisters: Frances Carter, Emily Jones and Gladys Watkins.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Funeral services will begin at noon. Bishop Larry A. Harris, senior pastor of the Bridge of Faith International Ministries, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date.
