Area Police Reports


DUNKIRK – Juan A. Ortiz, 30, of Dunkirk was charged Wednesday with unlawful possession of marijuana. At approximately 2 a.m., Ortiz was arrested for possessing a small quantity of marijuana on Route 5 in Dunkirk. He will appear in Dunkirk Court at a later date.


Christopher L. Freeney, 44, of Jamestown was charged Tuesday with third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree menacing. At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the area of Apple Yard Terrace Apartments, located at 608 E. Second St. for a reported fight involving multiple subjects with baseball bats. Officers spoke to a female victim who stated that her vehicle was struck with a baseball bat by Freeney, causing felony damage to the vehicle. The victim also stated that Freeney menaced her with a baseball bat. Freeney was transported to city jail without bail and is pending arraignment.


Joshua D. Doud, 32, of Jamestown was charged Tuesday with second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. Police responded to a domestic dispute in progress, where it was alleged that Doud struck and pushed a female victim in the presence of their 1-year-old daughter. Doud will appear in Ellicott Court at a later date. Ellicott Police were assisted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.


Jeremy D. Russo, 37, of Warren, Pa., was charged Wednesday with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, insufficient tail lamps, improper use of plates, unregistered motor vehicle and uninsured motor vehicle. At approximately 12:09 a.m., an officer on Baker Street Extension in Busti observed a vehicle with insufficient tail lamps. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer determined that the driver – Russo – had improper license plates on his vehicle, insufficient tail lamps, an unregistered vehicle, an uninsured vehicle and a suspended license. He will appear in Busti Court at a later date.


OLEAN – Hattie R. Cooper, 53, of Olean was charged Friday with fifth-degree welfare fraud, petit larceny and one count of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. Cooper is accused of failing to report income and her previous disqualification for fraud on her application to the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services from November 2013 to April 2014. Cooper received $17 in SNAP that she was not entitled to receive.

OLEAN – Alexander G. Carpenter, 21, of Allegany was charged on May 27 with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance after an investigation by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. More charges are pending the completion of the investigation. Carpenter was arraigned in Olean Court where bail was set at $200.

SALAMANCA – Rhonda L. Porter, 47, of Salamanca was arrested on May 28 on a violation of probation warrant issued out of Salamanca Court. She was remanded to county jail without bail.

EAST OTTO – Samantha J. Lilley, 29, of Yorkshire was arrested on May 21 for violation of probation from East Otto Court. She will appear in East Otto Court at a later date.

ASHFORD – Joshua B. Holdsworth, 33, of North Collins was charged on May 28 with third-degree criminal mischief following an incident that occurred at 6087 Thomas Corner Road in Ashford. He is due back in Ashford Court at a later date.

COLDSPRING – Daniel D. Visker, 28, of Steamburg was charged on May 23 with driving while intoxicated, DWI with blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher and failure to signal turn after a traffic stop on Railroad Avenue in Coldspring. He is due back in Coldspring Court at a later date.
