Harold E. “Bud” Alden
Harold E. “Bud” Alden, 90, of 142 Myrtle St., Jamestown, passed away at 9:17 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, in his home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Gustav and Christine Johnson Alden.
He was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from Aug. 27, 1943 to Aug. 30, 1945 during World War II. During his tour of duty he received the Purple Heart Award, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Dis-tinguished Unit Citation.
Before his retirement, he was employed by the Weber-Knapp Company for eight years and had previously worked for the former Watson Manufacturing Company for 31 years.
Bud was an avid golfer having belonged to the Maplehurst Country Club for many years. He was also a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Ord-er of the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving is his son, Steven D. Alden, with whom he made his home.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lillian Eckstrom Alden, whom he married Aug. 20, 1955, and who died May 14, 2005; and a brother, Donald H. Alden, who died Oct. 7, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
