Harlan M. Hill

Harlan M. Hill, 76, of Russell, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, at WCA Hospital, after a short illness.

Harlan was born Sept. 11, 1937, a son of the late Millard and Lida (Gander) Hill.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-62, and then went on to work as a foreman for Farmington township, retiring from there in 1999. After retirement, he went on to work for Dick Cable Excavating, where he drove truck.

Harlan enjoyed the outdoors, reading about history and in his earlier years, racing motorcycles. One thing he enjoyed the most was sharing his “Harleyisms” around town.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry (Griggs) Johnson Hill, whom he married July 29, 2001; his children: Katie (Duane) Baker of Lander, Melissa Ells of Lander, Charlie (Scott) Beggs of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Wendy (Ed) Young of Wintergarden, Fla., Lisa Burton of Warren, Nathan Kanarr of Arizona, Kimberly Johnson of Jamestown, Leonard Johnson of Arcade, N.Y., and Lee (Patrick) Johnson Lowe of Baltimore; a sister, Mary Lou Falconer of Lander; 18 grandchildren, and several greatgrandchildren; and his good friend, Ron Hunter of Lander.

In addition to his parents, Harlan is preceded in death by his first wife, Rita (Holt) Hill, who died in 2000; and an infant brother.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Lander United Methodist Church from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Hurst, pastor, and the Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain of the Rouse Warren Co. Home, officiating. Burial will follow in Foster Cemetery, Lander.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311; or the Brain Aneurysm Foundation, The BAF-Canada, 20 Whitney Ave., Toronto, ON M4W 2A8; or to a charity of choice.
