Studio Dance Conservatory will present their annual recital, Colors 2014, Saturday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. in JCC’s Scharmann Theater. Ballet, contemporary, hip-hop and hoop dance will be performed by beginner through advanced level dancers. This recital is open to the public. Tickets are available pre-sale and at the door: $10 for general admission; $5 for youth 12 and under.
Les Sylphides, a famous classical ballet originally choreographed by Michael Fokine, will be performed by Studio’s pre-professional and level IV students. Set to music composed by Frederic Chopin, it is originally a 30-minute ballet that includes a male dancer. Studio will present an all-female cast in a shorter 23-minute version.
Three Studio soloists will perform the lead “Sylph” roles: level IV’s Emma Anderson, Leah Comstock, and pre-pro Anna Paterniti. Level IV’s Emma Carlson and Quinn Taylor have “Sylph” demi-solos, joined by eight corp de ballet level IV students. Emma Carlson will join Emma Anderson, Leah and Anna in performing classical ballet variations from famous ballets including the “Odette” solo from Swan Lake and the fiery La Esmeralda variation.
Studio contemporary and hip-hop dance teams will perform their routines from this year’s dance competitions. They received first-, second- and third-place trophies in all of the competitions they participated in throughout Chautauqua County. New to the program will be two hoop dance pieces performed by Studio’s first-ever hoop class.
Congratulations go out to 15-year-old Anna Paterniti, who will study dance this summer in Columbus, Ohio, at Ballet Met’s prestigious five-week ballet intensive. She was accepted from an audition process that toured 18 cities around the country. She also competed in 2014 Chautauqua’s Got Talent.
Guest teacher Valery Lantratov will teach a master class in Studio on Thursday, July 17. Lantratov is Moscow-born and a former principal ballet dancer with the Moscow Stanislavsky and Kremlin ballets and general director of the Russian National Ballet Foundation. This class is open to any ballet student currently taking a minimum of three ballet classes a week. Reservations are required and class size is limited.
Summer session runs June 16 to Aug. 23 offering ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, hoop dance, Yoga/Pilates and scholarships for boys age 5-17. Studio’s summer intensive for ballet and contemporary dance will take place Aug. 18-29.
