Ross Grange Hosts 4-H Essay Winners

4-H Meat Animal Essay winners and their families were guests at the May 12 meeting of Ross Grange. Winners read their essays “What I have learned (or expect to learn) from my meat animal project.” – Jr. Goat – Rachael Harper; Jr. Hog – Tessa Warner: Sr. Goat – Nicole Ewer and Sr. Sheep – Matthew Overend.

Winners not present were Jr. Chicken – Corinne Covert; Jr. Sheep – Lydia Covert; Sr. Beef – Sarah Osborne and Sr. Hog, Jacob O’Brien. Each received a check and certificate from the Grange. Lecturer, Betty Wakefield introduced the 4-H members and presented their awards. Family members had an opportunity to visit with Grange members over the dinner table and learn more about each other.

Correspondence included thank-you notes from scholarship winners, attending college – Patrick Caldwell, Max Peterson and Aaron Rahr. A response from state Sen. Cathy Young regarding the Route 60 and 62 Pa.-N.Y. Corridor was received by President Robert Goodwin.

Members were working on a float for Memorial Day parades in Gerry, Falconer and Kennedy.

The county Pomona Grange will meet at Villenova Grange June 7. The next meeting of Ross Grange will be Tuesday, June 10, not on the usual Monday.
