Town of Poland residents took advantage of the recent Townwide Cleanup Day, sponsored by Kennedy Pride, to get rid of unwanted items at their homes and clean up roadside litter. Employees of the Poland Highway Department volunteered their time to accept yard debris at the town hall, and other waste at the highway garage on Grubb Hill Road. Volunteers picked up litter along the roads in town and in the downtown area of Kennedy. Other residents worked on the gardens in Hallquist Park to ready them for the summer. A wide variety of items came to the garage for disposal. About 300 pounds of metal was sorted out for salvage, according to Highway Superintendent Larry Mee. The 40-yard dumpster was full by the end of the day. Residents appreciate being able to bring their items to a central location once a year, and the community has taken on a brighter appearance since this program started.
