Lakewood-Busti Police Warn Of Phone Scam

LAKEWOOD-Lakewood-Busti Police are warning businesses of a reported phone scam that has already preyed on two local businesses.

According to police, the businesses were contacted by a person claiming to be from a utility company. The unknown person insisted the businesses pay money or a utility will be shut off.

The businesses were then directed to buy a MoneyPak card and provide the card number.

Police warn that the money on the card will be transferred to an unknown location, not a utility company.

If anyone has received similar phone calls, they are cautioned about making a payment. If anyone has made payments, they are requested to contact their local police.
