Blue Star Mothers To Host Second Annual Gold Star Memorial Saturday

The Blue Star Mothers will host the second annual Gold Star Memorial at the Jamestown Veterans Memorial Park on West Third Street at Harding and Logan avenues in Jamestown on Saturday at 10 a.m.

During the time of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, seven Chautauqua County natives died. Last May, the Blue Star Mothers honored all seven, along with their families. This year, the Blue Star Mothers will add and honor more area natives along with a couple of Gold Star heroes from the county who have died in service.

Last year, a rock with a plaque was dedicated in remembrance of the Gold Star heroes, along with seven flowering cherry trees that were dedicated to all of Chautauqua County’s Gold Star heroes throughout time, from the Revolutionary War until the current war in Afghanistan. It is the hope of the Blue Star Mothers that when the community passes these trees along West Third Street this spring and notices the trees in full bloom, they will be reminded of the sacrifices these local heroes made for our freedoms, along with the daily sacrifices of their families.

Those attending should bring chairs because seating is limited.
