Fillmore Stands Tall In High School Bowl

Fillmore Central School defeated Maple Grove Central School 109-36 in a recent WJTN High School Bowl match at Jamestown Community College.

In another match, Maple Grove lost to Chautauqua Lake Central School 83-43.

Player of the Match honors went to Alex Swan of Chautauqua Lake and Nathaniel LaCelle-Peterson of Fillmore.

The Maple Grove team, coached by Jason VandeVelde, included Christina Walter, Nick Swanson, Andre DelCalzo, Keith Carolus, Abby Sirwatka and Caroline Benson.

Members of the Fillmore team also included Mason Kelley, Michael McDonald and Hannah Hijleh. The team is coached by Deb Woltag.

The Chautauqua Lake team, coached by Mary Jantzi and Kim Sweet, also included Molly Hindman, Emilie Christie and Mariana Mathewson.

Fillmore also defeated Sherman Central School 53-48 and Gowanda Central School 49-25.

Player of the Match honors went to Michael McDonald and Mason Kelley of Fillmore and Kelsey Harriman of Gowanda.

The Fillmore team also included Rory Kelley. The team is coached by Deb Woltag.

The Sherman team, coached by Karen Beimel, included Nicholas Hlifka, Bryan Tenpas, Kim Pacy, Jordan Boland, Rebekah Anderson and Brandon VanCuren.

Gowanda team members also included Nicholas Marrocco, Trent Martin, Krystal Haggart and Meghan Lulas. The team is coached by Frank Fonti.

High School Bowl, now in its 53rd year, is produced by Media One Group in cooperation with JCC and sponsors including the JCC Alumni Association, Honest John’s Pizza and Wings, Jamestown Mattress, Lind Funeral Home, Pepsi, SKF Aeroengine North America, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, and Delta Kappa Gamma, the International Honor Society of Women Educators.

High School Bowl airs on Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on radio station WJTN and at 8 a.m. on Sundays on radio station WWSE.
