Three JPS Employees Receive WNY Educational Service Council Awards

Three Jamestown Public School District employees, Dale Weatherlow, Franni Carlson and Mary Chestnutt, received awards at the Western New York Educational Service Council’s 9th Annual Awards Banquet on April 30.

Weatherlow, district assistant superintendent of administration, received the award of excellence in administration. Carlson, a physical education teacher at Jefferson Middle School, was honored with the award of excellence in teaching and Chestnutt, a paraprofessional at Persell Middle School, received the award for excellence in support staff services.

“Jamestown Public Schools is very proud of Mr. Weatherlow, Ms. Carlson and Mrs. Chestnutt,” said Tim Mains, Jamestown superintendent. “We have always known that our staff is extraordinary, but it is gratifying when an outside organization, such as WNYESC, recognizes the excellence of our employees. These three employees exemplify the high-quality work in administration, teaching and support services that all JPS employees strive to achieve. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor.”

The council is a nonprofit educational organization affiliated with SUNY at Buffalo representing 70 school districts in an eight county region. For the ninth consecutive year, it has sponsored an excellence recognition program for support staff, teachers, administrators, superintendents and, for the first time, board of education members.

This year, the selection committee received the largest number of highly qualified nominations ever making the selection process very difficult. Those honored for this recognition have all had a very positive impact on their schools and school districts and the students they serve.

“The committee seeks to find the very best representatives in each of the five award categories. Each of these individuals is considered to possess outstanding skills and attitudes reflective of the highest levels of performance,” said Robert Christmann, council executive director. “They have earned this honor through a career of excellent service recognized by their co-workers.”
