Rain Dampens Clymer Tulip Festival Celebration
CLYMER – The Clymer Tulip Festival’s initial event was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Kinder Parade, where local schoolchildren ride decorated bicycles, wagons and tricycles down Main Street, was canceled after heavy rain on Thursday. It will not be rescheduled.
According to Shelly Schenck, event organizer, rainy weather has also caused the event to be canceled in previous years.
“This is nothing new, it’s all in Mother Nature’s hands,” she said. “Nothing else has changed – all of the other events are on schedule.”
The Tulip Queen crowning is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Clymer Central School Performance Center. The Sauerkrat Social and flare-lighting event will follow the crowning at the Clymer Town Park.
The Wooden Shoe Race will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, beginning in the Clymer Central School parking lot. Events will continue throughout the day.
There will be a variety show at the Clymer Central School Performance Center at 7 p.m.
The biennial Tulip Festival, which began in 1953, is focused on celebrating Clymer’s Dutch heritage. Dutch immigrants arrived in the area in 1844.
