‘Wounded Warrior’ Classic Is Friday
For the second year in a row, the Fredonia High School baseball program will be sponsoring the ”Wounded Warrior Classic,” a doubleheader scheduled for Friday at Russell E. Diethrick Park in Jamestown that will raise money to support the Wounded Warrior Project.
This year’s event features four local baseball programs. The opener will see the Frewsburg Bears take on Portville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The nightcap will feature the Jamestown Red Raiders and the defending Class B state champion Fredonia Hillbillies. Anticipated time of first pitch is 7:30 p.m.
Each team will be wearing camouflage jerseys with their school name and the WWP logo for the event. Fans in attendance will be asked to make a $2 donation at the gate. Additional donations will also be accepted. Two 50/50 raffles – one during each game – will be held. All donations collected will be given directly to the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization whose stated mission is to “honor and empower wounded warriors” of the United States Armed Forces with a vision to “foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history.”
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) works to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. Those not able to attend the games can make a direct donation online at support.woundedwarriorproject.org or by calling 877-958-2233.
