First Year Of UPK A Success For Holy Family Center

The first year of Universal Pre-Kindergarten is wrapping up at the Holy Family Center on Main Street in Jamestown, but you won’t see any sign of exhaustion on the children’s faces. They are all smiles as they walk the halls of their new school.

“The kids are loving their new school,” said Megan Klice, one of the teachers at the Holy Family Center. “They love playing and learning and getting ready for kindergarten.”

At Chautauqua Opportunities, the staff understands the importance of providing children with early access to quality education. That’s why they’ve partnered with Jamestown Public Schools and Holy Apostles Parish to open a Head Start UPK site at the Holy Family Center. The school opened as a full-day early education site in February and has been a great success, according to those involved. There are currently over 50 children enrolled and they are looking to expand by two more classrooms for the fall.

This new site is made possible through the New York State Universal Pre-Kindergarten Expansion Grant and will provide increased opportunity for Early education for many local children. Enrollment for fall 2014 begins soon.
