Walter W. Hodges
KENNEDY – Walter W. Hodges, 85, of 2591 Route 62, formerly of 2773 Route 62, died Friday, (May 9, 2014) at WCA Hospital.
He was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Russell and Minerva Deiley Hodges.
Before retiring, he had worked for Dahlstrom Manufacturing Co. for 41 years.
He enjoyed being with people, NASCAR racing, the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees.
He was a member of the IOOF Lodge 130, Clarks Corners Church, Chautauqua Lake Horseshoe Club, Jamestown Reserve Police Officers, Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department and Jamestown Moose. He served on the Myrtle Cemetery Board, the board of directors for Jamestown and Frewsburg midget foot-ball, and had been a coach for Falconer Little League baseball. He had managed and played baseball for many years, was an avid bowler, was a coach for Special Olympics bowling, and had given over 22 gallons of blood.
Walt is survived by three children: Debbie (Rick) Stearns of Kennedy, Julie (John) Piazza of Falconer, and Ted “TJ” (Terri) Hodges of Shelby Town-ship, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Hodges of Buffalo; his grandchildren: Stephen (Eileen) Hodges of Clarence Center, Scott (Tra-cy) Stearns of Falconer, Corey Stearns and JoLynn Stearns of Jamestown, Jonathan Piazza of Ver-mont, Jennifer Piazza of Falconer, and Aleida and Katryn Hodges of Shelby Township, Mich..; 10 great–grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Tom and David Hodges, and Harold Barefield of Toledo, Ohio; and a sister, Judy Arquette of Toledo.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Hodges on Jan. 3, 2004; a son, Stephen Hodges; two brothers: Richard and Gerald Hodges; his stepmothers: Ida Walker and Elizabeth Hodges; and two sisters: Katherine Robie and Mar-gola Russo.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. The Rev. Walter Venman, pastor of Clarks Corners Community Church, and the Rev. Lee O’Brien, pastor of Busti Federated Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery, Kennedy.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tues-day and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
