Jayhawks Sweep Pair Vs. Corning
Lyle Howard made his final mound appearance a winning one as Jamestown Community College closed the baseball season on a positive note by sweeping Corning CC in a NJCAA Region 3 Division III twin bill on Wednesday.
Howard went the distance with a six-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks in the 7-1 opening-game victory.
In the nightcap, the JCC bats were alive with 14 hits and it took a 15-0 win over Corning CC in five innings.
Marcelo Parker stroked three hits with an RBI double to support Howard in the first game.
Cody Matheson ripped two doubles and scored twice, Christian Van Note added two hits with a double and drove in two runs, and Bram Johnson had a RBI double for the Jayhawks (11-28).
Overall, the Jayhawks had 11 hits, including five doubles, while defensively they had three double plays.
The second game was over quickly as the Jayhawks plated eight runs in the first inning and seven more in the second inning.
Johnson capped the big first with his first home run of the season with a grand-slam home run over the left center field fence.
Parker pitched the shutout with a four-hitter, striking out six and walking just one.
Josh Allan delivered three hits with an RBI single, Rich Allen plated three runs with two hits and scored twice, and Johnson added two hits and tallied twice for the Jayhawks.
The Jayhawks had 14 hits in the nightcap.
