Tag, You’re It!
Creche volunteers will be tagging at both Brigiotta’s locations this weekend in observance of Mother’s Day. Tag Days is the organization’s most successful fundraising event of the Creche year, giving the community a chance to learn more about how Creche assists the needy children and their families in our area.
Creche’s Tag Days have a long history in our community, having begun during the war in 1943 when high school students volunteered to stand on the streets of Jamestown selling the now familiar red and white, diamond-shaped tags, asking for donations to “help Creche help a needy child.” Since Creche is an all-volunteer organization, 100 percent of the money raised goes toward helping children. At the present time, between $25,000 and $30,000 is provided each year to help needy children in the Jamestown area.
Besides providing beds and bedding to those children in our area who are deserving of assistance, Creche provides equipment for WCA Hospital and sews gowns during Lent for the pediatric patients there. The organization also provides camperships for kids who might benefit by the camping experience and supplies children and their families who are worthy with gifts at Christmas. Creche has also continued over the years to provide support for many organizations dedicated to the betterment of children. Creche asks for the community’s support of its fundraiser this weekend. Please consider making a donation to the Creche volunteers’ canisters as you purchase your Mother’s Day flowers and plants at Brigiotta’s this weekend.
