Body Found In Gorge

PERRYSBURG – The body of a Gowanda woman missing since December was discovered Tuesday. New York State Police in Collins are investigating the discovery of Kimberley A. Militello, 59, by a local fisherman in Cattaraugus Creek.

State police responded to the creek Wednesday after receiving a call from the Seneca Nation Marshall’s office of possible human remains found.

Family members submitted an obituary to an area funeral home late Wednesday. The New York State Police are not confirming the identification until its investigation is complete.

State Police uniform members along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation unit descended into the gorge and confirmed that the remains were human.

It is believed Militello passed away shortly after her disappearance (Dec. 22, 2013). The investigation into the cause of death continues.

Due to the location of the body, the State Police SCUBA and aviation units were utilized to remove the body from the fast-moving creek.

The remains were taken to the Erie County Medial Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
