Police Discover Human Remains In Cattaraugus Creek
PERRYSBURG – The New York State Police in Collins are currently investigating the discovery of human remains located by a local fisherman in the Cattaraugus Creek in the Town of Perrysburg.
The State Police responded to the creek after receiving a call from the Seneca Nation Marshall’s office of possible human remains being found. State Police Uniform members along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit descended into the gorge and confirmed that the remains were human. Due to the location of the body the State Police SCUBA and Aviation Units were utilized to remove the body from the fast-moving creek.
The remains were taken to the Erie County Medial Examiners Office for an autopsy. Preliminary findings indicate that the gender was that of a female. The investigation is ongoing pending autopsy results and identification.
Assisting in the removal of the remains were the State Police Forensics Identification Unit and the Cattaraugus Coroner.
