Cougars Claim First Baseball Win

CLYMER – Jordan Crabtree carried the big bat as Cassadaga Valley broke into the win column for the first time in five Division 2 West outings and for the first time in six overall baseball games.

Crabtree had five singles and drove in two runs while Tyler Simpson and Jaquan Watts added three hits and Tyson Gugino two in the 21-hit attack as the Cougars outlasted Clymer (2-4, 2-4), 21-9.

Simpson had a double among his hits and plated three runs while Watts added an RBI single included in his hits plus went the distance in giving up nine hits to Clymer. Watts also fanned five.

Gugino, meanwhile, scored five runs, knocked in three and had a double among his CV hits.

Cassadaga Valley opened up with eight runs in the first inning but only led by a 10-9 score when it tallied five runs in the fifth inning and added five more in the seventh to pull away.

Jake Wiggers stroked three hits, including two doubles, for Clymer and drove in a pair of runs and tallied twice.

Clymer is very busy this week as it hosts Westfield today and Sherman Thursday and goes to Cassadaga Valley on Friday.


FREDONIA – Weston Ley celebrated his 18th birthday in style, as he tossed a complete game and went 3 for 5 at the plate, helping Fredonia (10-2, 7-0) to a 12-5 win over Maple Grove (6-8, 3-5).

Ley allowed five runs – three earned – on six hits while striking out 12 and walking four.

Smith finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Hillbillies while Cam Voss was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Jared Burmaster reached base five times (two singles, two walks, hit by pitch) and scored four runs.

Corey Wefing suffered the loss on the hill for Maple Grove after going the first three innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out three, walking one and hitting two batters.

Jonah Tanner had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Red Dragons.


PANAMA – It was all Brocton from the start as the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 19-0 win over Panama (0-8, 0-9) in Division 2 West baseball.

Daulton Remington earned the victory with five strikeouts and was followed by Anthony Miller in the fourth, who struck out five with four walks as the duo scattered six hits.

Offensively for Brocton, Derek Walter delivered five hits, including two doubles and four RBIs; Connor Dolce drilled four hits with a double,; Ryan Johnson added two hits with a double; and Latham Dunn doubled and drove in two runs.

Nolan Eggleston took the loss for the Panthers, issuing six walks while Rick Eddy had two hits.
